Mascara is, undoubtably, my desert island item. Its the one thing in my make up bag that I couldn’t live without. Life is just better with mascara!
I have been looking for The One in the mascara stakes for what seems like forever. I love lots of mascaras, but there is always a sticking point after I have used them for a while. My favourite mascara used to always be the YSL False lash effect, and it wore like a dream, yet it drove me mad that it went clumpy after just a couple of months. I don’t know if it was something I did, but it hated me!
I picked up the new Pump N Volume volumising mascara from Dior a couple of weeks ago, and have been road testing it daily since. This little wand of wonder comes in a squeezable tube. The idea being that you can roll the tube between your hands to gently warm the product, therefore making application totally smooth and clump free. It also allows you to get just the right amount of product on the brush. Clever eh!
The brush in this mascara is a version of my favourite type. It is a narrow brush, which has short bristles, and the tip is tapered so it gets all of the tiny inner and outer lashes. I dont wear mascara on my bottom lashes, but I am sure that this would apply like a dream to them using the narrow end.
When I bought this, the lovely lady on the Dior counter in Boots said that is was “highly smudge proof” but not waterproof. She said unless I was swimming or going in the shower, it would stay put. This was an important point for me as I find lots of mascaras I have tried leave black smudges under my eyes, its so annoying! It has definitely lived up to the promise. I can do my 12 hour work day with not a smudge in sight. It also still looks glossy and black at the end of the day too. I use my normal eye make up remover to take it off and it comes off really easily, no rubbing or pulling required.
The only thing I have found with this mascara is that it does clump a tiny bit if you apply a couple of coats. This isn’t a problem for me personally as I only ever apply one coat of mascara, but if you love to load on that lash, you may have to play about a bit with the amount you apply in subsequent coats. My friend bought this mascara on my recommendation, and that girl loves to lash up. She said that she uses a clean spoolie/lash comb after the second coat and its no problem at all. She too is sold on it.
Overall, this Dior Mascara is a great find for me. Its a great mascara and my two weeks of using it have already secured it as a staple in my make up bag.
