The turning 40 List – How many have I ticked off

My very first published post on my blog, was telling you about how as I approached my 40th birthday, my hubby came up with the idea of compiling a list of 40 things that I have always wanted to do (you can see it here if youd like to read it)  We/I would then work through it over the following years. Well, I turned 44 last month, so thought I would do a little update, see what headway we have made into it. Also of course, it reminds me what we have still yet to do………

Here was my list;

Go to the Cinema on my own  (I saw Les Mis. Bawled like a baby most of the way through it, on my own, like a mentalist)

Go to Paris on the Eurostar,  just for lunch, visiting Chanel while there.

Test drive an Audi TT    (I’d always wanted this car, then bought something different after driving it)

Learn to water ski

Go for afternoon tea   (I have managed to eat my way through many, you can read about some here, yum)

Mad Hatters Tea party

Go back to Dublin with the girls, I’d had many happy times there (we went January last year, had the best time)

Learn to ride a bike with no hands, (thats me not holding on to handlebars as opposed to selective amputation)

Volunteer and feed the homeless Christmas day  (me and my sons did this Christmas just gone)

Visit Venice

Go to Wimbledon for the Tennis   (my friend and I queued from 5am, but had such an amazing day, got to see Andy Murray Match, eat strawberries and cream and drink pimms)

New balls please!

Have a few days spa break

Bye a Jo Malone candle   (have bought a few now, I feel so fancy)

Go on a yoga retreat

Visit Christmas Markets in Prague

Sit in an old book shop cafe for a few hours, drinking tea, immersing myself in books

Cut my long hair off  (went for a chin length bob, I loved it but I need my hair up for work so grew it again)

Excuse the dodgy photo, it was the only one I could find of my short hair. Im notoriously camera shy! It also shows when my bedroom was a building site!

Go to a proper vegan restaurant for a meal, despite being a non meat eater since age 14, Iv never done this

Go to Harrods and browse from the very top floor to the bottom (excluding the fur floor, yuk) I had a lovely day in London with my mum, shopping, cocktails and shopping

Make a start on the book I have been saying I will write for the last 23 years

Go on a girls holiday and be 18 again for a week (we had a crazy week in Benidorm, and survived)

Wheres Wally? Oh yeah, they were in Benidorm!

Learn a new skill like Italian cookery or jewellery making or something

Start a blog  (ta-daaaaa)

Volunteer for an animal charity or scheme that helps wayward teens. Id like to do an ongoing day a week

Spend an afternoon at St Katherines Dock (one of my fave parts of london) and watch the world go by  (I take my camera now too – geek alert)

St Katherines Dock London – Its like a little Oasis

Do a 10K run with my son

Start my English Degree  (im almost finished a year long writing qualification, starting my degree in September)

Go on Safari

Go on a perfumery course

Visit as many of the “Top Cocktail Bars” in London as possible  (ongoing, but we have done a fair few)

Dosent everywhere serve cocktails in a brass ant? No? Just The Artisan at The Langham then

Visit Italy

Go posh wine tasting  (did this in London with our group of friends, end result was a not so posh planking competition in Shoreditch…)

Submit one of my short stories or poems into an “upcoming author” competition

Learn to make/sew things  (I did a year course on making soft furnishings, made the sum of two pillows and a pair of tab top curtains since)

Visit Scotland

Go back to one of my fave cities, New York and have real New York pancakes   (we went April 2015, pancakes were gorgeous)

Central Park New York
Central Park

Go to Dubai

Travel Route 66 in a winnebago with my hubby and boys, a proper road trip like I did in Australia

See the Grand Canyon  (it was amazing, Vegas rocks)

Visit the South of France

Go in a Hot Air balloon

Discover more of our beautiful country (England)  (this is an ongoing series on my blog, we are so lucky what we have in our own back yard)

Go to a night club with my sons  (we went to a foam party in Turkey with our sons and had the best time, that was good enough, I dont want to cramp their style more than once, although Im sure they were jealous of my moves……)

Rent a forest or waterside cabin for a week and just escape to relax, write, meditate and take long walks.

Renting a place by the water would be amazing

So there you have it, my progress. It was really nice writing this post as it brought back to many happy, fun, love and laughter filled memories for me. Life is blooming good eh! Still a lot more to do, just got to win that lottery!

What would be on your list? Id love to hear. I can always steal your ideas and add more to mine…..

Ohh thank you, I love that you are going to make a list, do it! It helped me get over the dread I felt at turning 40, (which the reality of was fine by the way, not sure what I thought would happen midnight of my 39th birthday). It gives you lots of plans to look forward to. I cant wait to hear about your adventures xxxxx

some nice stuff there, and achievable too! top of my list is go to the Maldives. We need to get on and do that. top of the husband’s list – going to Cape Canaveral to see all the space stuff. (geek!). I’d also like to visit Skye. My list is mainly more about visiting places I’ve not seen before than other things. I should think about those maybe!

Thanks for reading xxx Oh the Maldives is amazing, so gorgeous. I was lucky enough to go there for my honeymoon (almost 20 years ago). Yes I agree, I could have added a gazillion places that I wanted to visit, my travel wish list is extensive, but I wanted to add smaller, more easily achievable things too as travel is so expensive isnt it. You should write a few things down. It really gets you thinking. xx
