A Travel and Lifestyle Blog
I usually do a five favourite things post, but I thought I would do an empties one instead this month, showing things I have used up, why not mix it up a bit eh! I have been making a concerted effort to use the products that I actually have in my cupboard, before I purchase more. I have a tendency to be unable to resist things in Boots, despite me probably having similar already. Since I started my cash book, (You can read more about that in this post Five Favourite Things May ) I became very aware of my drugstore addiction, so have reigned myself in. I am almost a Saint with the restraint I am showing……
So this post will show you what I have used up in July/August, what I would re-purchase and little mini reviews. Hope its helpful x
I have a ridiculous amount of body moisturisers. Literally a whole shelf full in my bathroom. These are the ones I have used up over the last 2 months.
Nivea Coconut Shower Cream – I am obsessed with anything coconut scented in the warmer months, so this limited edition one floated my boat. It isn’t expensive, smells gorgeous and lathers well. Its not anything special, but I liked it and would repurchase when it comes out in the summer again.
Viktor Rolf Flowerbomb Body lotion – One of my favourite body lotions ever. I told you in my My Holidays Essentials post how I love to use scented body lotions on holiday instead of perfume, and this one is absolutely gorgeous. It scents your skin all day, but softly and non-overpowering. Its my third bottle and I will re purchase as soon as I can.
Hawaiian Tropic After sun – I had this for my holiday last year and its gorgeous. It is cooling, hydrating and moisturising, and again, has a coconut scent that screams holiday. I love it and would definitely re purchase.
Loccitane Hand Cream – I got this little tube in a subscription box that I tried. I apply hand cream every night once I have got into bed, so always have a stash in my cupboard. My hands get so dry! This one was ok, nothing spectacular, but soaked in nice and didn’t feel greasy. I wouldn’t necessarily purchase again, but not because I didn’t like it, but I just didn’t like it enough to specifically track it down.
Nivea Relax bath cream – I wasn’t overly impressed with this. It didn’t give loads of bubbles, I wasn’t keen on the scent and it didn’t leave my skin soft. I wouldn’t bother with it again.
Laura Mercier Foam Bath – I have told you about my love of indulgent bath oils and bubbles in previous posts, and this one is one of my absolute favourites. This is my second bottle and I will 100% be buying again. I hate that its run out. It gives loads of bubbles, scents my entire en-suite and bedroom, hydrates and scents my skin and just makes me feel good. I love it.
I tend to use the same core skincare products, (you can read about my current skin care in this post, Looking after my skin in my 40’s) so its no surprise what I got through this month.
Environ AVST 5 – My go to moisturiser, packed with vitamin A, results driven, hard working. What more can I say. I already have a new one on the go.
Environ Retinol 1 serum – I introduced retinol into my skincare sometime ago and this is my fourth or fifth bottle. I mix one pump in with my night time moisturiser, and rub that bad boy in. It packs a punch in the anti-aging stakes, and I the only time I will not repurchase is when my skin is ready for the bigger punch of Retinol 2
Environ C-Quence eye gel – My favourite eye gel ever and one that I have used for years. It os expensive, but I swear that this is what keeps the skin around my eyes looking the best it can.
All details for Environ can be found here
Comfort Zone Extra Cream 24hr – I got this in a goody bag of a beauty conference I attended for my day job. Its a great brand, and this product was great for keeping in my bag to top up my moisture levels through the day on the hotter days we enjoyed. I would re-purchase this as I liked how it made my skin feel.
It is well documented on my Instagram stories the issues I have with my hair. I have a lot of hair, that is beyond wild and many hours of my life are wasted trying to tame and control it. I am always looking for good haircare so please, for the love of the hair gods, feel free to leave me recommendations in the comments.
In all honesty, I wouldn’t repurchase any of these items. The two shampoos just didn’t suit my hair. The lemon highlights one made my hair feel stiff and dry, and the Herbal Essences one made my head itch. I try different shampoos all the time in the hope of finding The One, so I know my hair is difficult to match, its not always the shampoos fault. The dry shampoos, also known as the item I cant live without, were ok. I think some of the latest Batiste dry shampoos that they have launched don’t suit my hair, I should stick to the original. These made my hair feel almost sticky and flyaway. I hated it. I will try another brand next as I think I need a change.
Again, I have a huge perfume collection as my lovely husband is always treating me to new ones. I am consciously trying to use some up, so have been calling some of my older ones to duty.
Pure DKNY – This is a lovely, soft, daytime scent that I really liked. Its not offensive in any way, dosent over power an is lovely for warm summer days. I have been using this a s my daytime work perfume. I wouldn’t necessarily re-buy it, but thats because I have to really love and adore a perfume to repurchase it. I would recommend trying it though.
Miss Dior Cherie – I absolutely love this scent and whenever I wear it, I feel like a real grown up for some reason. I think its a classic, classy perfume that people recognise. I think this is my second bottle. Sadly, this one has gone off as I have had it a while, so I wouldn’t re-purchase yet as I have too many others to use up. It is a perfume that I love though, so can see me buying it again in the future.
So there you have it. My used ups this month. I was surprised that I hadn’t used up any make up items this month, but to be fair, when I look at my make up stash I shouldn’t be surprised at all!
