Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand – Yep, Contour on an over 40

I know what your thinking, this old bird is far too old for contouring…… Well, in the nicest possible way, balls to that! If you have been here a while you will know my thoughts on the supposed make up rules, they are there to be broken!

Now, im certainly not going to be whacking on the dark contour and the extreme beam, can be seen from space highlighter, but I think adding a little contour, AT ANY AGE, is  fabulous. It can add a little shape and angle to the face, as well as enhancing with colour.

Charlotte Tilbury launched the Hollywood Beauty Secrets collection, including matte lipcolours and contour and light wands. The Contour Wand wand from the collection, is a great way of adding subtle contour. It has a little cushion applicator on the top of the wand, that you can apply directly onto your skin from. It comes in fair-medium, or medium-dark. Three guesses what colour this pale skinned blonde went for………

Let me tell you all the details…….

This product is lightweight and buildable, allowing you total control over how much contour you want to apply. I like just a hint of contour, so this suits me as it looks so natural. It also blends like a dream! The applicator makes it really easy to apply. The fact it has the cushion applicator on it means that its a great item to have in your top up make up bag, or popped into your handbag for on the go top ups. You can apply and blend it out with the cushion applicator, although I prefer to use a small foundation brush to blend.

I tend to pop 4 dots just under my cheek bone in a line, then blend it along the bottom of the cheek bone first. When it is a bit more than a wash of colour, I start gentle blending it slightly up and down the underside of the cheekbone, creating my slight shade. This product glides on, feeling dry almost straight away, and this is due to the use of Siloxanes in the formulation. This is what makes it soft, more blendable and silky feeling.

The packing it comes in is a 12ml squeezable tube. The top is a screw top, and the cushion applicator can be turned to “off” so that no product escapes out. Its not a cheap product, you dont want any splodging out in the lid! As you would expect from Charlotte Tilbury, the packing is very glam and in the traditional  packaging of the brand. So pretty.

I find this product stays put all day too. I have also worn it on a night out, and it stayed where it was supposed to, despite the bar being very warm. I am really pleased with this addition to my make up bag. The only thing I would say, is that I wish the tube were a little bigger. Its £29 for this item, and if used daily, Im not sure it would last that long. I dont use it daily, so not a problem for me, but worth noting.

See all the details here

I really like the Hollywood collection. There are a couple of lip colours that I have got my eye on. After no #NoSpendOctober finishes of course……….

What about you, any products you love that just make contouring so much easier? Have you tried any of the contour products out n the market? Feel free to recommend any to me.

I usually use cream contour, but this sounds like something worth giving a go! When it comes out, is it like a cream or a thin liquid?

      October 25, 2017 / 1:14 pm

Its almost like a creamy gel, does that make sense? Its very lightweight and fluid, but has the richness of a cream. Its beautiful

      • October 25, 2017 / 2:25 pm

Sounds great. I only have two products from the CT range so far – a lipstick and a cream shadow – but they’re so luxurious and I’d love to try more.

Thank you for reading! I tend to always fall in love with Charlotte Tilbury products, I think they are fast becoming my goto brand x

  5. October 25, 2017 / 1:14 pm

The only thing I have from CT is a lipliner and I love it. I aspire to have more from the range but my bank account says otherwise 😀😀
I love my NYX contouring stick, I won’t lie I never use the “highlight” end as it’s mire like a thick stick concealer but the contour end blends out like a dream.

Ohh I hear ya, my bank account frowns! I get tips in my job, so I save my tips up for my treats. I dont feel so guilty then as its not my wages haha. The things we do! I think contouring sticks are so much easier to use than powders do you? I like the precision of them. Thanks for reading x

      • October 25, 2017 / 1:51 pm

Yup I much prefer cream contour. I find it more subtle as well. I never seem to end up with an ashy stripe like I can do with powders!

  6. October 25, 2017 / 2:14 pm

Oh I heard about this one, it looks like everyone loves it. Well it’s CT, her products are always on point. xx

I think I love it most for its ease of use, and total control of application. As soon as I suss out how to take photos of my make up on my face, I will be able to show it! I find photos always wash out my make up, I need to learn!

      • October 25, 2017 / 2:28 pm

Can’t agree more, especially if you use professional camera it is so hard to take photos of makeup look, I struggle a lot with it also. xx

I am hoping to get a lesson from my Uncle that used to be a photographer, If I get any top tips I will pass them on xx

  7. October 25, 2017 / 6:17 pm

I’m not a fan of contour! I really wanna be but I just can’t. Ive tried it myself and with professionals and I’m not sure which I hated more!! I like a luminator on my checks but that is it for me!! PS did you not get the memo?? Your not 40, your 18 with 22 years experience!! So you better keep preaching with that kind of resume hahaha xx

Hahahahaha! I love that! I used to say I was 33 plus VAT…..I was the same about contour as you, then I watched a youtube video by Pixiwoo, that made application make perfect sense. I do apply very light though. I wish I could successfully take photos of make up on my face, I could show people then!

      • October 25, 2017 / 8:34 pm

Ou I love the VAT one!! Old age is not what it use to be, now’a’days its glam thanks to lovely ladies like yourself who are no where near the past it sign!! Reading your posts I forget your age and feel like your writing and post ideas are just really relevant so thank you!!
I’ll have to take another look for sure, I promise i won’t give up on it yet!!

Ohhh Kerry I’m so glad you reviewed this! I’ve been umming and ahhing as I don’t normally use cream products and I was scared this would be hard to work with. You’ve completely sold me though! I’ll definitely be picking up a wand and giving it a go, glad it’s got your pale girl seal of approval!

Oh glad to be of help! xx It is honestly the easiest contour product I have worked with. The buidable colour means us palies can go sheer wash with it. Im sure you will love it xx.

  9. October 26, 2017 / 9:08 am

Ooh so beautiful, I just love Charlotte Tilbury’s packaging! Not really one who goes for cream contour products but this one has me curious. That patchiness you can get with powder products (especially low end ones) can be infuriating and I’m dying to get my hands on a good contour product, cream or whatnot. Gooorgeous photography as usual xx

Thanks for reading xx. Its so funny how we all have our preferences isnt it. I personally, love a cream contour, but then I love a cream blush too so perhaps thats just my thang! Next time you are at the CT counter, have a play, see what you think. Im sure this product will tempt you…….

  10. October 30, 2017 / 11:20 am

This sounds fabulous – the applicator seems so easy to use. I still struggle a lot with contour – some days it looks good and others I look a bit grubby 😂 I still need to try some Charlotte Tilbury products out! Gorgeous photo’s as well kerry x

Thank you so much Grace, the photos are the hardest part for me, so its great to hear they are ok. It really is so easy to use, I would recommend it. They usually have it on the tester counters, so you can even get one of the CT make up artists to show you how to try x
