Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara – A Review

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara – A Review

If you know anything about me and my make up, you will know that mascara is one of my desert island items, and thing I spend a lifetime trying new versions of. Im always looking for the perfect black masacara, that dosent upset my sensitive eyes, dosent clump and absolutely dosent smudge underneath. I do have a few favourites that I like, (Im looking at you Dior Pump and Volume, full review here) but there is always room in my make up floor to ceiling drawer unit bag, for another! Enter stage right, Urban Decay Troublemaker, the latest offering from the brand in the mascara stakes!

My first impression of this mascara packaging wise, is its not really my cup of tea if Im honest. Its a bit colourful, which being a lover of all things neutral, is not my thing. Having said that, im sure it will appeal to many and its whats inside that counts eh!

The Applicator

For me, the applicator brush in a mascara is important. I hate big, chunky brushes. My preferred brush is a tapered brush, so I can use the small end for those little corner lashes without taking out my eyeball! My second favourite is the applicator style that this mascara has. Its a plastic brush (rather than bristle) and is slimline and short bristled. It seperates the lashes really nicely, combing the product through the lashes so no clumps, and coats all of the lashes really quickly and easily. The brand state that it curls the lashes as it coats, but I have really curled lashes naturally, so I cant say whether it does or dosent. it goes on beautifully though, my mascara obsessive within is happy.

Love this style of applicator

The colour

This is a beautiful, glossy black. It is intense and I found, only needed one coat. Beautiful.

The Longevity

This is the favourite part of this mascara for me. It. Does. Not. Budge (Apparently, according to the brand, its sex proof………)

I apply my make up on a work day about 7.30am, and finish work at 8pm. It looks as perfect at the end of the day as it does the start, and not a black smudge underneath in site. I HATE mascaras that do that! The brand claims that you can layer this mascara on to build up volume etc, with no clumps. They also claim it gives you 13.7 x more volume (specific eh? the .7 is very important)  For the benefit of this review, I applied 3 coats and it didnt clump. I felt like Kerry the Camel with my huge lashes, (my lashes are quite long anyway) but no clumps people, no clumps. Winner!

The Removal

I did find that this mascara took a little more effort to get off than my last mascara I was using (Kiko, you can read about it in this post, Kiko Haul – First Impressions ) I usually use my cleanser to remove my make up, but this didnt remove this mascara fully. No big issue, I just used my Bobbi Brown eyemake up remover first to get it off, which removed it easily. It just wont remove fully with water and my cream cleanser.

In summary

I love this mascara. It ticks all the boxes in what I want from a mascara. Its cruelty free, suits my sensitive eyes, and is under £20, which I dont think it bad for a higher end mascara, and lasts really, really well. I dont think any mascara conossouirs are going to be dissapointed. Its a good un!

I’m looking for a new mascara, but want one that washes off easily with Cetaphil and water. I’ve been using Loreal for years! Any other recommendation?

I really like the Dior pump and volume, that one washes off well. Its a great mascara. It does go a little clumpy towards the end, but nothing too much bother xx

Great review! i always feel like I don’t want to spend loads on mascara, but I guess you get what you pay for, right. I’m pretty stuck and sold on benefit ‘They’re Real!’ mascara, but when it runs out…..maybe i’ll give this a go!

No probs! Thanks for sharing. Maybe a good makeup remover is required for these excellent stick mascaras 🙂
One day, you’ll find the right one. It’s fun to keep trying though, for sure! Xx

Hi Kerry, too am on the constant lookout for my desert island mascara…I have tried quite a few various ones but my most recent purchase has been my favourite so far..YSL The SHOCK, it’s brilliant..loads of volume and length, not craggy or thick just really effective..love it!! Xxx

Hi Naomi, thank you so much for stopping by! Ahhh now I havent tried a mascara from YSL for a while. I was a huge fan of their false lash effect one for years, but then it started to go gloopy after about 4 weeks. Thank you for your suggestion, I will definitely look into that one! Thank you x

This sounds right up my street Kerry. My recent Kiko mascara I was quite disappointed with so I bought a Rimmel in the supermarket as a back up. I keep thinking I’m going to have to re-purchase my go-to Benefit They’re Real, but have used that for so long I want to find a new super fab one you know. LOL! Gonna make a note of this one now in my phone and hunt for it when I’m next at the shops!
