As a make up obsessive, there is very little I can resist when it comes to pretty products. I have got better over the last couple of years, and my no spend experiment that I did last year (my no make up buying month) did help reign in my spending habits. However, new products from the cruelty free brand Stila, are always going to test my resolve!
I only discovered the brand Stila at Christmas this year, when I received one of their long wear lipsticks in my Marks and Spencer advent calendar. By the way, who knew that good ole Marksies did so many fabulous beauty brands?? Im impressed…. Anyywayyy, I fell in love with its formula and staying power, and that one has been a staple in my day to day make up bag since. I wanted to get a couple more, as the anxiety I feel at the thought of it running out is real…… (its not, but you get my point). I had also been eyeing up their Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow eyeshadows, as the positive reviews Id been reading meant I was convinced that I needed one in my life! Sadly, it was never to be as the colour that I really wanted, I mean really wanted more than chocolate, was always sold out! We never hooked up and I felt bereft ever since……
Welllll, enter stage right Glitter and Glows twin sister, Shimmer and Glow, the newly launched little sass pot of an eyeshadow! The online description told me that these new products had the same liquid eyeshadow formula as its twin, but with more shimmer than glitter. Now, I know what your thinking, someone best call the make up police coz this cheeky 45 year old beauty blogger is wearing shimmery eye shadow! I am. I do. And I blooming love it! You know me by now, I’m not abiding by any make up rules, if I like it, Im slapping it on my peepers. Shimmer on my beauties, shimmer on!
The colour that I had been after in this new range of 6 colours, and finally managed to track down, was Kitten. A champagne/nude colour that I thought was perfect for my spring make up bag. I often like to just wear a light colour all over my eyelids, sometimes a flick of liquid liner (sometimes not) and mascara. Simple, natural and fresh. This colour is perfect for that look. I LOVE the application of these new offerings. I am all about making my life easier, and I have found with these I can use the applicator they come with to literally whack it on my eyelid, then I use an eyeshadow brush to blend it. Job done. It really is that simple. I do tend to apply one eye, blend it in, then apply to the other eye as the liquid sets fairly quickly. Not so quickly that you feel like you have to be like Edward Scissorhands of the make up world, but quick enough that its easier to do one at a time.
Do you want to talk about the staying power? These stay looking pretty perfect all day long. No creasing, no flaking. I do use a primer under my eyeshadows, (Urban Decay Prime Potion) so this could aid the staying power, but its fab. I found that I got about 9/10 hours before I felt that I started noticing any patches or movement of the colour. Yep, even on my 45 year old crinkly eyes! They are completley comfortable to wear, and I really, really like the shimmer. It just lifts the whole eye and makes me feel brighter. Even my 16 year old son said it looks “well good’ so thats a seal of approval right there. I find the product removes easily at the end of my day with my usual cleaner, no rubbing or pulling on my poor old girl eyes needed. I love this so much that I am going to pick up another. I have my eye on Grace and Jezebel…..Thinking about it, those names could be two ends of the scale of good behaviour, so I will see what mood I am in when I make my purchase as to what name I choose hahaha!

Lets move on to my lippy purchase. The new colours that Stila have launched in the Stay all day Liquid Lipsticks are the same formula and durability as the originals, but have gone a little more sheer on us. They give a slightly more subtle wash of colour with a little softer finish. Again, there are 6 new additions, and I bought the colour Sheer Patina, which is a soft pink, perfect for Spring. Its gorgeous. These dry to a matte finish, but quite a soft matte finish, if that makes sense? They look almost like you have pressed them onto the lips. I really like the finish.
Like all matte lip products, they can feel a little bit drying, especially if you already have dry lips, after a few hours wear. A little tip that I found makes the job a goodun, when I put my morning moisturiser on, I apply some of my Carex lip balm, or my eye gel to my lips too. Then, by the time I am ready to apply my make up, my lips are moisturised. This works a treat with all my matte lip products. I do suffer with quite dry lips, so I dont tend to wear matte lip products everyday. I can get away with about 4/5 out of 7 days.
The formulation of these lippies means that they slightly stain the lips, so you feel like you have a wash of colour in place all day long. I do re-apply once throughout the day, usually after lunch. If I am doing my long work days, (where I work 9am to 8pm) I do apply a little lip balm from early evening onwards, a couple of times. This just refreshes the colour a bit, and gives me a little moisture. I do talk quite a bit in my job, so this does dry me out a little more. I dont tend to have to reapply if I am just out shopping, in doors doing stuff etc. The photo below was after 5 hours wear.

As the finish of these newly launched shades have a softer finish, I will probably swap to this one for spring/summer from my other Stila lippie. Its just a really pretty look.
So there you go, thats it. What do you think? Have you tried any of these offerings from Stila yet? Anything else in the range that you recommend? Are you like me and a fan of shimmer eye products? Have any of you tried the Glitter and Glow eyeshadows?
