So, for fear of being one of those people, can I please start this with a blatant beg?? I have finally, after about eight months of trying, managed to implement a newsletter onto the blog. I cannot tell you how happy this makes me, as me and technology are not usually friends! But, I did it all by myself, and I am happy about that fact! I would love you to subscribe, so that I at least feel I have some friends…. It will be a fortnightly newsletter, full of chat, fun, tips, and basically anything that i feel I want to share, but isn’t really a blog post. I hope its useful! You can sign up using the little pop up. Thank you lovely people.
Now, lets get onto business……
Hi, Im Kerry and I am a palette-a-holic….. I have no excuses for my inability to walk past the Urban Decay, Charlotte Tilbury or Two Faced make up stands without taking a teeny tiny peek at their latest offerings. Its my thing. Its what I do. I have zero resistance. If an item is multi-functional and perfect for my travels, then they can just take my money. When I saw the beauty that is the Urban Decay BackTalk Palette in all its double sided glory, I knew then and there, I would make it mine. Grab your coat holiday palette of dreams, you have pulled……
So adamant was I that I would make this mine, that when I packed my holiday make up bag, I did not pack any eyeshadows or blushers, knowing I would get it at the airport. I was that taken by it. I picked this latest offering from Urban Decay up in World Duty Free on our way to Cape Verde, with the sole intention of the palette, a mascara, a Pixie by Petra eyeliner, my trusty Clarins lip perfecters and my Elemis hydrating radiance primer being my entire holiday make up. I don’t know about you but when I am away on a beach type holiday, my make up is kept to a minimum as I think as you become a little sun kissed, a more natural look feels better. It takes 2 mins to do my make up on holiday, its great!
Lets have a look at this little beauty in some detail then. The palette itself was inspired by the cult lip shade Backtalk, from Urban Decay Vice range of lippies. It has four cheek products on one side, then eight eyeshadows on the other. The cheek colours are a mix of blushers and highlights, so again, fab for travel as its all in one palette. The blush colour “Cheap Shot” and the highlight “Party Foul” were my go too’s on holiday. They were perfect and the highlighter was used as an eye colour on more than one occasion!
The entire palette is a mix of nude mauves/pinks, soft berry colours and muted rose tones. Its gorgeous. You have three matte shades, five shimmery shades in the eye palette side, then two blushers, two highlighters on the cheek side. I love the colours for the warmer months, but I think they are going to look amazing in the Autumn too, especially with a strong, bold berry lip. Cant wait! When you look at the eye colours, I know the colour “Shade” looks a little scary, but used as a wash of colour, it really is amazing. There was not one colour that I didn’t try and love within my make up looks on holiday. I also used the colour “180” as my eyeliner, both under the eye and along the lash line, so I didn’t even need the eyeliner I took. I have again, failed on the photographing make up on my face front, Im sorry. I tried, but it washes out in the pictures and looks rubbish! My friend is going to lend me a ring light to try, so I hopefully will suss it! All of the holiday photos that have been shown on stories etc, will have been with this palette. I have used the Urban Decay primer under all looks, as I swear this stuff makes your eye shadow stay put forever! I am on my third or fourth tube of this wonder stuff.
It was one of my best moves, bringing this palette home to join my Urban Decay family. I can see it being the item I always travel with as it covers all bases. The double sided mirror that separates the two sides, is a genius idea. It stands upright in the middle of the palette, so you can use it to apply your make up on the go. Fab idea eh! The fact that of course, Urban Decay are also cruelty free makes them one of my favourite make up brands anyway, and I have never found any of their eye colours to not blend beautifully and be so easy to work with. I do always use an eyeshadow primer as I do find they can fade away a little if I don’t. The Naked palettes are notorious for that, but its no biggie. I always use a primer anyway.
If you are an Urban Decay fan, you need this palette in your life. If like me, you like to condense your make up bag down when you travel, you need this palette in your life. If you like make up, you got it, you need this palette in your life. Have I made you understand how much I love it????? You can shop it here if the mood takes you…..
The other items in my holiday make up
All links are clickable if you would like to see more details x
Clarins Lip Perfector – These have been a staple in my summer make up for years, and I have spoken about them previously on the blog in this post, My Holiday Essentials. They are great as a daytime lip protector, but also fabulous as a wash of colour in your evening make up. I love them.
Diego Dalla Palma Ciglione Mascara – I love this mascara. Its great for building volume and never makes my sensitive eyes sore. Cruelty free, it was introduced to me by my M&S beauty advent calendar last year and I have used it ever since.
Pixi by Petra Endless Silky eye pen – Glossy black, stays put, cruelty free, no smudges. What more could you want!
Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm – I always take this on holiday. I never wear any base make up on my travels, it gives no coverage, but does give an extra boost of hydration and glow to my skin. Its colourless, lightweight and soaks in, but makes my skin feel so good and look glowing.
Make up Bag – From M&S. They have many designs
Sunglasses – I love Sunglasses and these from Dior were the ones I wore most on holiday this year.

So, there we have it. I can see my relationship with this Urban Decay palette to be a long and lasting one, with a big dose of fulfilment thrown in. Do the colours appeal to you? Id love to hear what item you just have to have in your travel make up. Do you too like multi purpose, travel light type make up or do you take your entire collection with you? Oh and of course, any tips for photographing make up “in-situ” please tell this old fossil. I struggle! As ever, let me know what you think in the comments xx
