A Travel and Lifestyle Blog
I was thinking that you may perhaps want to know a little bit more about me? Kind of like a speed date between us! Its obvious from my blog that I love make up, eating and drinking, but I thought it might be fun to tell you a bit more. A random 12 facts. I warn you now, this post contains old, poor quality photos, an admission a step too far, wild hair, and dodgy eyebrows. So, here goes
– I have been a non meat eater since I was 13 years old. I saw a lorry on the M25 once full of pigs going to slaughter, and as we pulled level with the truck in traffic, I swear to you one of those beautiful beings looked straight into my soul. I have never eaten them or other animals since.
– I meditate every day of my life. My meditation can be for as little as 10 minutes, or up to 45 minutes. It was a practise that I took up years ago at a very stressful time in my life, and it helped change my entire mindset. It keeps me sane!
– My career before I had my sons was in banking. I loved my job, and was fortunate to have some amazing managers that believed in me. Despite not being their normal preference of a graduate, (I left education at 16), and being female, I was recommended for a position to train as a financial advisor to some of the banks biggest clients. I worked my backside off for 18 months and at age 23, I became their youngest female manager ever (at that time, Its much more normal nowadays). Its something I still remain so proud of. Girl power right there!
– I had huge wanderlust as a youngster. At 18 my friend and I decided we were off to Australia to backpack for a year. We left our jobs, sold our cars and packed our backpacks. Once we got to Oz, it didn’t go as planned, and I returned to the UK after just 6 weeks. Within a month I had met my now husband, and I was asked to tag along with him and his 3 friends on their world tour, just 3 months later. We partied our way around the world for almost 2 years, and survived it, both as a couple and as normal healthy humans hahaha.
– I trained as a beauty therapist in my late 20’s as I’d always had an interest in massage and holistic health. After I had my sons I secured a position in a salon, and “learnt my craft” By 37 I opened my own skin care and beauty therapy salon, which I built up into a healthy business, and nurtured until I walked away January this year. You can read about that here.
– I am currently in the middle of a year long writing qualification, which I am doing as a pre-requisite to an English literacy degree, which I start in September. I have re-ignited my love of writing poetry!
– When I was 18, I worked as a “shot girl” in a nightclub, wearing hot pants, boobtube and a bow tie! My job was to go around with a tray of shots, getting customers to buy them. If only I had that confidence and that figure now!!!
– I am at my absolute happiest, when I am with my husband and my sons, the four of us together. My family can make me laugh until tears run down my face, and they are my tribe. My heart. I adore them and just love being in their company.
– My dream in life is to open an animal rescue. I want to take in all the discarded animals and give them a second chance. In my ideal world this would include a rescued dairy cow and her calf that she could actually nurse and keep for once, 20 rescued battery farm chickens, a pig and her piglets, as many dogs as I could fit, a mummy sheep and her lamb, 2 llamas, poor breeding mares so they wouldn’t have to birth any more foals, and whatever else needs my help. As you may be able to see, Iv given this a lot of thought.
– Something most people would never guess about me is that I can be extremely lacking in self confidence, to the point of crippling self doubt and shyness. I think this stems from gaining weight when I was going through a tough time, and struggling since to get it off. I have learnt coping mechanisms to cover it as I have gotten older, and can hide it well with strangers, but my Mum and my Husband would describe me as very low in confidence. Maybe 2017 will be the year that the excess weight is finally shed!
– I love Justin Bieber. There. I said it. I can often be found dancing around the kitchen to his songs. My husband and sons buy me a Bieber calendar for christmas which I put in the staff room at work each year. Im Kerry. I am a Belieber.
- At aged 20 I lived in a car for 3 weeks. Myself, my (now) husband, and three of his friends. We were driving from one side of Australia to another, and had incredibly limited money, so had to live in the car. We used to use service stations to go and wash and brush up. It was a fun, challenging, revealing, adventure of a lifetime!
Well there you have it. A bit more about me! Id love to hear a little something about you??
