A Life and Travel Blog for the over 30's
Well, it would seem that some of you are as interiors obsessed and, lets be honest here, as nosey about peoples homes, as I am! When I asked over on an Instastories poll last month if me sharing my home wear buys is something that you would like to see, it was a 100% yes vote! This made me happy as I blooming love seeing the bits and pieces that people buy for their homes. Im happy to share my latest bits with you. Welcome to my first home wear haul, let me know what you think…
My style in my home is quite simple. I like clean, bright and airy rooms, with splashes of colour in my soft furnishings, prints on my walls, and house plants (which I usually kill, RIP Harold Cactus) etc. Most of the rooms in my home have white walls. I love nice accessories, and Im sure I don’t have to remind you about my obsession with candles! My latest bits that I bought are all accessories. The house we are in is our second “do-er-upper” and the renovations are still ongoing. We bought a two bedroom home which we have turned into a four bedroom. I have become used to living in a building site over the years! Thankfully, we are nearly there and I will share some of the transformations with you in another post.
This, along with the next item featured in this post, my tray, are my current loves. I just love the simplicity of this little tea light holder, and I think that it looks a lot more expensive than I paid for it, (currently on sale for £11.60, from £16). They have this style hurricane in three sizes, and I would love the big version to sit on my fireplace. I bought this to sit on my pretty tray, and had imagined that it would all sit on the centre of my dining table, beautiful vase of flowers, maybe a little votive candle too. However, I put it in my bedroom with the tray to take some photos, and fell in love with it on my chest of drawers. I have also used this little hurricane in my hallway, to brighten up the alcove under my stairs. Its a cutey, and I think it will look good wherever I put it.
I adore this tray. I could not love it more. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen it already once…..or twice…. Its just gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for. Its oval shape means that it makes a nice feature on a good sized table, as well as looking beautiful where it currently sits, in my bedroom with a collection of my perfumes on it. I had been admiring this tray in my local Laura Ashley store for ages, so you can imagine my utter joy when it went in the sale online (linked above for you) The tray also comes in gold, and I am tempted to pick one up as my new office that is being done is white and gold. I am over the moon with this beauty.
Faux Cherry Blossom and Vase – The Range (I couldn’t find a link, but pop into your local store)
This little beauty, (pictured on the tray above) was an absolute steal! Just £3.49. I like to have little touches of the season around my home, and I thought this brings a little spring to my coffee table or bedroom. I really like faux flowers for adding a bit of colour, and this is amazing for the price. You can see more of my faux blooms in this post, Faking it, Beautiful Blooms for your Home if you would like more flower suggestions.
My candle obsession appears to have no limits. I stock pile them as I don’t ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, (get it) want to run out. Again, you all came to my aid on Instagram when I asked for candle suggestions. I fancied trying something different to my usual Jo Malone or The White Company, and had some great recommendations. There are a few on my list to try now, (thank you) and I will work my way through them. It was suggested to me that I would love the Penhaligons range of candles, and they were so blooming right! Although, Im not sure if I am entirely happy that a new, expensive habit has been ignited…..
The Penhaligons quirky little boutique shops are the cutest. They have their marketing bang on, with the feel of the shops like an old fashioned apothecary. If you have never been into one of the stores, I urge you to, they are fabulous. The candle I chose is quite a masculine scent, which is a bit different for me. Its called Members Only, and it was inspired by the after dinner antics of English gentlemen, who retired to the “smoking rooms” to enjoy a game of cards, a brandy and a cigar. The candle has scents of honey, everlasting flower, leather and tobacco. It is a heady mix of gorgeousness and I love it! So different. All of Penhaligons scents have a story behind the, which I love.
This is probably, the complete opposite of my Penhaligons candle when it comes to the scent. Clean, fresh and with a hint of citrus, its a perfect scent for spring. My sons actually, very kindly bought me this one, the first time I have had it, and its gorgeous. I tend to have Incense and Embers or Lime Basil Mandarin from Jo Malone, so Im looking forward to trying this new one.
I picked up a couple of these as I had heard lots about them. I am very fussy with my candles, so I will admit I didnt have high expectations. My local Aldi rarely has the candles in, so when it did have some I picked up number 2, which is Blackberry and Bay, and number 1, which is Lime, Basil, Mandarin. I didnt like the Blackberry Bay one at all, it had a faint undertone of cat wee! Sorry if your a fan of that one, (I love the Jo Malone version) but it wasnt for me. I do like the Lime, Basil, Mandarin though so for £3.99, will probably pick up again if I saw it.
I have been trying to brighten up my walls in various rooms with some prints and photos. I love supporting small businesses, so love it when I come across companies on Instagram or at events that suit my style. This gorgeous print of Bridget Bardot (my make up idol in my teens) was from an amazing artist I discovered on Instagram. The husband and wife team do lots of fabulous items, including iconic prints, painted t-shirts and art. I have linked to Gina’s Instagram account here. Bridget is currently hanging in my bedroom, but I may move her to my office when the office renovation is completed.
I also got this bespoke framed map from a company I met at a bloggers event, (and they have very kindly offered one of my readers the chance to win their own, details below). Bombus are a Kent based company that specialise in handmade map and location gifts, including *framed heart shaped ones like I have, storage boxes, cards, bookends, wooden letters, all manor of fabulous gifts! Bombus have very kindly offered any of my readers 15% off any order using my discount code Kerrylifeandloves at the checkout if you decide they have something you like. Travel is something that my husband and I are both passionate about, so I love these items and am looking to add to the one I already have. My framed map is of a place in Sydney, Australia called Coogee Beach. Its where my husband and I lived for over a year, and was our first home together. This is going to hang in my office, and I am planning to put a few framed favourite photos of some of our family travels around it.
The third print, a Coco Channel quote, was a TK Maxx find. I love it because its white, with gold lettering and will fit beautifully in my office. I already have a handbag and shoe wall, but its being redesigned to hold more and look prettier. This print is the perfect quote for that area, so I see it hanging around there. it reads, The Best Things In Life Are Free, The Second Best Are Very Expensive. Preach it Coco!
