A Life and Travel Blog for the over 30's
Ok, I know it’s not a Pulitzer Prize or a golden Globe, but just the fact that someone thinks my little blog is worthy of a mention is lovely. The gorgeous Sharon from the fabulous Best Before End Date blog nominated me for this, a blog award by bloggers to bloggers. In truth, iv had a few of these but never participate. Not because I’m waiting for my Pulitzer, but because, in the interest of full disclosure, I never know how to put banners and all that jazz on my blog! Sharon assured me I didn’t have to with this one, and its sharing the love for blogs, so Iv joined in, thanks Sharon xx
So Sharon has asked me five questions, and the idea is to answer them, nominate some other bloggers, and give them some questions. It’s all about sharing amazing blogs, showing appreciation and promoting the wonderful world of blogging. You know I’m all over that! Here we go;
Why did you start blogging?
Im sure people are bored of hearing this now haha. Iv banged on about this on my blog, that the original reason I started blogging was because I have been trying to write a book for 22 long years! I have chapters written, I have characters, I have my plot, just not the motivation to do it! When I was on the first year of my adult English Literature degree course, we were told to get into the habit of writing every day. Almost like training and working out a muscle. Be that in a diary, poetry, blogs etc, just something that made you write! Well I have read blogs for about ten years, (this is actually my third blog that I have written, fourth if you count my spa blog too), but this is the only one iv kept with. It started with me wanting to share my make up and skincare finds with people, as well as inspire people to get out there and live life. My blog has evolved and I concentrate mainly on trying to inspire people to travel and grab life by its hairy ones. So now, I focus on lifestyle and travel, with a little ethical beauty now and again.
Have you ever thought about giving it up?
I have never thought about giving my blog up, I adore writing it far to much. I have had low moments, in particular when I have my work or ideas copied, (its happened again just this week) but I have never considered giving up. However, about 18 months ago I did question my “why” a bit. It seemed everyone wanted to make money from their blog, have it lead to a career in some way, and I almost felt like that’s what I should be aiming for. I questioned why I wrote it, why I spent the gazillion hours a week on it, if I wasnt looking for it to be my job. I was confused by myself. I gave myself a slap, and remembered that I NEVER wanted my blog to become a sales platform, it was all about writing, so whether one or one thousand people read it a day, I’d still write it. That gave me clarity and reminded me what my motives were. I always feel incredibly lucky by the number of people that stick with me, I’m blessed. Now, if you asked me about giving social media up, my answer would be VERY different……..
Have you met any blogger friends IRL, or who would you like to meet?
Ohhhh I have met so many! I blooming love it when I get together with bloggers. I have to give a special mention to my very much appreciated work wife Lauretta, (from Home and Horizon) who has been a constant source of support and inspiration for me, and I now consider one of my close friends. There are so many bloggers that I could mention, but as I am old and forgetful, I would hate to leave any of my special people out. My London Travel bloggers and Essex bloggers meet ups are often my favourites. I have met so many wonderful, talented bloggers and I am fortunate to call many of them my friends.
I love meeting up with other bloggers, so I will say I wanna meet you all!
Whats your favourite achievement?
I’m sorry if this is a cheese fest of an answer, but the pinch me moments for me are genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, when I get messages from a reader telling me I inspired them, or thanking me for lifting them, or that they have enjoyed visiting somewhere I have written about, or any readers that just feel compelled to write to me after they have read a post of mine. Think about that, someone takes time out of their busy day to send you a lovely long email. That is special isnt it. It honestly makes my day and I have cried at many messages and emails over the two years I have wrote my blog. I’m such a nerd that I keep them all in a folder in my emails, to remind myself that in some peoples life, I make a teeny tiny difference. Iv always worked in the “service” industries (get your mind out the gutter filthy people) so I guess I just have that in built desire to help. It makes me happy. I have also been incredibly fortunate to work on some fabulous campaigns (you can read the posts on the links) with brands like Hotels.com. Panasonic, and the Essex Tourist Board, which were amazing, and being sent to Portugal on a press trip was mind blowing, but it’s the people for me, all day long.
Do you have specific goals you would like to achieve?
Hmmmm, I never know how to answer this question as I am not really sure. I know I will always write, I know that, like all writers, I want my writing to be read. I know that I want to get this bloody book finished (I feel like the main character in my book lives with me, truly I do). With regards to the blog specifically, I would love to do more press trips, as travel is what lights my fire. I have always and forever had a nomadic, gypsy soul. I would also like to explore and write more about eco friendly matters, sustainable travel and living more green. I love our planet and feel compelled to use my little platform where I can with that.
Well, thats it! I have officially fulfilled my role as a Sunshine Blogger Award winner! I am going to nominate the following bloggers as I would love to hear more about them, and my questions are listed below.
