My Travel Wishlist – Making Plans

I am not going to say 2017 was my worst year, many beautiful things happened as well as some really shit things, but I will be glad to see the back of it! My mind is very much focusing on the future, my husbands recovery and grabbing life by its hairy ones and getting back out there! His illness really shocked and terrified us, it was a lot to deal with for him physically and mentally, but he has the most amazing, positive attitude so all the things it has stopped us doing last year, well we will do them more spectacular this year. Bollocks to you cancer!

Anyway, I digress….

Nik finishes his treatment in March, so we are making plans to do a lot, see a lot and experience a lot. I thought I would share with you some of our travel plans. Feel free to add any destinations for me if you have any suggestions x

Side harbour Turkey

Cape Verde

This is something that we already have booked for July, and are going to as a family. I cant wait. We have looked at Cape Verde a few times while browsing holiday brochures, looking for our next destination, but for some reason never got there. As it has the reputation for being a laid back, chilled destination, we thought quite soon after the end of treatment, it would be the ideal time to visit.

Nik and I have both wanted to go here for so long! I would love to visit the Brugge Christmas markets, but I have heard it is literally crazy manic. We are thinking of going there in April or September. If you have been, I would love any hints and tips. Suggestions on where to stay also appreciated!

Lake Garda

This is one off of Niks wish list. He has always wanted to go, and when our eldest son went to play football there for a while a couple of years ago, his eyes were green with envy!

A little nearer to home, but somewhere we long to visit. I have never heard anyone say that its not beautiful. Niks brother in law is a Scot, so he has complied a list for us on where we should head to. I really want to go to try to find Nessie in Loch Ness, and also head to The Cairngorms.

New York

I adore New York. I have visited a couple of times and fall in love with it a little more each time. I would love to get there this year with my Mum. I took my Mum for her 60th birthday as a surprise, and she absolutely loved it. She hasn’t been back since, so I would love to get back there this year with her. Iv been in Winter and Spring, so I think Autumn could be a nice time to go? We are looking at going in September, and hope to get it booked pretty soon.

Central Park New York

South of France

I have never been to anywhere in this area! My husband often holidayed there as a child and growing up, and always says how much he thinks I would love it. We would love to have a week there in the summer months next year. Drinking good wine, eating good food and being in “traditional” France. Heaven!

I long to go to venice, and my husband and I have it very much on our wishlist this year. There is something very magical about it isnt there. I would love to go when the masked balls are all on, that would be amazing to see all the people in their finery.

We were very lucky to be able to take our boys to Lapland for a week a few years ago, to do the whole Santa thing. It was the most magical holiday that I think we went on. It holds very special memories for us. We have all said that we would love to go back to Lapland to do some skiing, as we all fell in love with it. Its actually a great ski destination, so we may look to try and do that this year.

Exploring England

The start of this year, as you may have seen on my blog, I started and Exploring England series. The idea was to try to explore more of England. Nik and I have both been incredibly lucky to travel fairly extensively, but have seen little of England. We were doing well with our exploring until illness brought it to an abrupt halt in July. We are determined to get back to doing more of that next year. I think our first destination will be Bath in May.

So thats it! I could probably list a further 20 places that we have spoken about visiting, but we would be here all day and quite frankly, thats quite enough to be getting on with. Travel is expensive!

Where do you have on your wish list to travel to next year? Do you have weekends away aswell as your week/fortnights holiday? Id love to hear xx

I wish you lots of fun and interesting adventures as you make your way through this list. I’ve only been to Brugge very briefly, for the sole purpose of buying chocolate, but I’m sure there’s plenty to do there besides that! I hasten to add we were travelling through – I didn’t just go for chocolate and come back again! We also want to do a huskey ride – perhaps in the north of Sweden, although I don’t know if that will be this year as we still have a lot of work to do on the house.

Thank you Kirsty. I read that you went to Brugge for chocolate, and thought wow, you love your chocolate haha. Saying that, I would love to go to Paris for lunch, then come home. It sounds so decadent dosent it! Sweden is somewhere else I would love to visit, good choice. If only we had a money tree eh! Thanks for stopping by xx

These all sound fantastic, Kerry and a great way to spend 2018. You must stop off in Wales, too. Castles, mountains, beaches and gorgeous little villages xxx

You are so right, Wales is very much on our list. I only got to Wales once, and that was for my husband to play golf at the Celtic Manor, so I didnt see much of it. I will have to pick your brain for the best place to head for, thanks for another destination xxxx

I hope you manage to visit some of these places! I can’t recommend Scotland enough, it’s beautiful! I also visited Brugge a few years ago in September, its a lovely city – and so many chocolate shops! I’d love to go to New York, but that might be a 2019 goal for me! I am hoping for lots of mini breaks myself this year around the UK and in Europe – Belfast, Snowdonia, Cambridge, Berlin, maybe somewhere in Italy (too much choice there!) xoxo

Great list and I am jealous. I love New York so that is always on my list. Airfare is just so expensive from where I am sitting (Canada). Plus limited vacation time. Looking forward to hearing about these trips!!

Ohhh I agree, New York is a permanent on my list. I just love it. See now I am jealous as Canada is wayyy up on my wish list. My husband and I have wanted to get there in forever. Christmas time would be my ideal time to visit Canada. Thank you so much for reading and leaving me a comment xx

I am so glad that 2018 is going to be a better year for you. If you have time during your stay in the South of France you could always try to do a day-trip to Monacco. It has been on my list for years (I live near Geneva) but everytime we plan to go something happens (on our first attempt my husband slipped in a freak hail storm on his motorbike whilst driving through the Alps so we had no option but to go home again…it was only the second day of the holiday!!!)

      January 17, 2018 / 3:05 pm

oohhh No! What a nightmare. Hope he had no lasting effects from that accident! I agree with you, Monacco would be a dream to visit. Always looks so glam. I think my list just goes on and on haha! Thank you so much for visiting and commenting xx

            That would be amazing! xx

  9. January 17, 2018 / 9:22 pm

Great list! You should definitely visit Arran if you come to Scotland. They call it ‘Scotland in miniature’ and it features all of our best qualities on one little island. My favourite place! x

    • kerrylifeandloves
      January 17, 2018 / 9:37 pm

Ohh Arran has been suggested before, I will definitely make it my mission to get there. Is there a particular season that its best to visit in? Thank you so much for the suggestion, Im getting so excited about my travels this year!

      • January 17, 2018 / 11:24 pm

Summer is busiest but probably best because the weather is usually more settled meaning that the ferries are less likely to get cancelled due to weather and you can get out and do more. In saying that, really April – October is lovely! And its Scotland, so good weather is never guaranteed really! If you go, you should try fiddlers for some food in Brodick and definitely go see the Glenashdale Falls πŸ˜€ x

          January 18, 2018 / 4:32 pm

Ohh these tips re fab, thank you. I had a chat with hubby and he reckons we could aim to go in May, so Im glad you said that. I have wrote your food suggestion down too, thank you. I will let you know if we get booked! xx

          • January 19, 2018 / 7:54 pm

Oh May would be a lovely time to go! Please let me know if you get booked up! Brodick is a good place to look for your first time going, or Lamlash as these are nearest to the ferry terminal and probably the most populated bits with shops and things! X
