A Travel and Lifestyle Blog
Subscription boxes on the whole, are not my thing. When the first batch of boxes launched a few years ago, I did commit to one, but it was short lived. My thinking was that the box would be a good way to introduce me to new brands and products, and it did this, but I found that as time went on, there was less and less in it that appealed to me, and the items would end up thrown in a drawer, never to see the light of day. I gave up on it.
I was attracted to the Latest in Beauty one, which I saw a tweet about, because it is totally tailored to you. You choose how many items you want in your box, and what items they are going to be! How great is that? I know there are millions of subscription box reviews out there, but I thought I would share my first one with you, so you can see the sort of things you can choose.
I decided to give it a go, especially as there is no minimum subscription. There are three different price points to choose from, and these are dependant on how many items you want to receive. You can see the options here.
You then choose your items, and voila! Your chosen box arrives in about 5 days.
I picked this as I am always on the lookout for a nourishing hand cream. This is not a brand I had tried before, so who knows, it could be a great find! Its enriched with Shea and Cocoa butter, so ingredients wise it looks promising, and the fragrance is beautiful! Very reminiscent of tropical holidays
I am a huge fan of The White company, and although I have tried their candles before, Iv never tried any of their bath and body range, so these were my next two picks. If you have tried their candles, you will know that they never disappoint. I haven’t tried the Orange Grove one before, but thought it would be a nice spring fragrance. Its gorgeous! It has an approximate burn time of 15 hours, so not a bad size. The 30 ml hand cream (yep, another hand cream) is in the beautiful, tropical Seychelles scent. I have had this scent as a candle before, and it is a mix of coconut, bergamot, vanilla and almond. Its such a light, summer scent!
So, you may guess from my next two items that I selected, that I have a small issue with my hair, and its lack of control. Its wild. My hair is like a mane of frizz, and even when I have painstakingly straightened it for hours, one bit of humidity or rain and it puffs up like candy floss. I am always, repeat always, on the lookout for a miracle cure to tame it. When I saw these two items in the options, I jumped at them as I have never tried either. The Batiste item claims to keep my hair frizz free for 12 hours, and the Frizz ease claim is that it gives me immediate frizz elimination! Time will tell if I can tame the beast, I will report back if so. Both of these items were full size, so 200 ml and 100 ml respectively.
My final item was this eyeliner by a brand Iv never tried, Pixi. It claims to give me waterproof, smudge proof long wearing amazingness! I am all over that if it lives up to its claim. I hate the fact that sometimes, my eyeliner transfers onto my eyelid a little throughout the day. So annoying. The size you get is 0.8g, so about half the size of the full size item. Its a really nice, intense black, so I look forward to trying it out.
So there you have it. My first box. I also received a little “Latest in Beauty” make up bag, and two perfume samples complimentary. I have decided that I will try a minimum of 3 boxes, as I think thats fair to see if its worth continuing with. I am pleased with this one, and I will use all of the items I received. I am praying to the hair gods that the frizz control items will live up to their claims! I await an email now for the May box, which will then give me access to choose my 6 items for my next box. I like the concept, time will tell if I feel its worth the £15 a month
Id love to know your thoughts, let me know in the comments xx
