That sounds scary dosent it? It feels like we have only just come into 2017, and Im talking about the end of it.
June for me, is always a good month to reflect on what I have achieved in the first half of the year, and what I hope to achieve in the second half. Its a way of focusing and working out what I would like to accomplish in the year. Iv never really been much of a “goal planner” until a couple of years ago when my lovely friend Clare told me its a great tool for focusing and understanding where you would like to head for. I could see the benefit of that when I had my business, but I can also see the benefit of it in everyday life. Its a positive thing and I like things broken down into mini goals so it feels like Im making more progress.
At the start of the year I had clear goals in mind, as I had just made a huge lifestyle change. My goals included;
Regaining balance in my life
Committing to and making time for writing a minimum of one blog post a week
Becoming more organised in all areas, financially, in my home, with my time.
Decluttering. I hold on to “stuff”
Learn new skills/attend courses
Be kinder to myself with more sleep, healthy food, relaxing more.
Try to improve my self confidence, possibly by pushing myself to do things out of my comfort zone.
I feel like I have made headway with some of them, and some will require a little more time, (Im looking at you relaxing/healthy eating ….)! I have so far, managed to write a blog post per week, I have regained some balance, I have attended courses including a beginners photography course, and a writers workshop. (I am also still attending my college course that is a 2 year course).
Self confidence is a tough one you can only work on improving it cant you. Its not anything anyone can give you, and it can be taken away by careless people. Its a slow burner! Also, I haven’t yet mastered the organisation thing, but have definitely made improvements in my time management, and my little cash book that I showed you in my May Favourites post, (here if you would like to read) has been brilliant for helping me identify where my money goes (and how much I waste). I have also made a start on decluttering. A ruthless wardrobe clear out means I now have half the clothes! Shoes next………
Goals that I would like to achieve by the end of the year include;
Having my entire house decluttered – I really want to be brutal with this, I am a borderline hoarder and need to stop
Target setting – I set myself a little goal when I installed Google Analytics to my blog, on what Id like to see in those figures by June. I managed to achieve them, and although I know they are minuscule in terms of what other bloggers reach, I was so excited and thrilled as it showed my blog is slowly growing. I feel like Im floundering around in the dark most of the time, but Im slowly teaching myself blog stuff, and that feels gooooodd! Although Im not one to stress about the numbers, I do love to see that people pop on for a look, it makes me so happy as it means people are visiting and reading, I bloody love that (thank you those that visit, you make this ole bird very happy). I have set another little target that I hope to reach by the end of the year. Baby steps……
Get back into exercise – if you are familiar with my blog, you would have perhaps read about my desire to journey back to health and fitness (here if you want to read). My old lifestyle installed some really bad habits in my eating, and exercise was non-existant as I was so time poor. Im hoping to change that and find some kind of routine with exercise. I am addressing the food side, but its a work in progress, and I am not putting myself under pressure. Thats just miserable. If anyone has any tips for sneaking exercise in to a day, please let me know!
Step out of my comfort zone more – It is no secret that I hate having my photo taken. I just hate it. I feel really uncomfortable in front of a camera, so you will rarely see photos of me on my blog or social media. Im trying really hard to be more comfortable with this. I want to be able to show you make up I recommend in-situ, and I feel its important that you see that in some posts. Im never, ever going to be taking loads of self-indulgent selfies or posting photos of myself all over the place, but now and again, when I feel it would add to a blog post, I would like to take a deep breath and do it. I have bought a tripod, so we will see!
Attend a Blogging event – This one feels sooooooo scary to me, so is probably another “step out of the comfort zone” one. I really want to go to an event or a meet up, but Im quite shy and have long bouts of being low in self confidence, so it terrifies me! I am meeting up with a blogger this month that Iv chatted online with for a while, and am so looking forward to it, so thats the first step I suppose.
I do have a few more personal goals that I have set myself, but I won’t bore you with them.
I think its good to set little goals do you? I would love to hear any that you set, or if its something that you find useful. Let me know x
