A Travel and Lifestyle Blog
I have an admission. I need to just get it out there. Im a skincare brand snob.
There. I said it.
I have always looked after my skin well, and for the last 18 years or so have only used cosmeceutical brands on my skin, as I want results, and will not go down the injectables route. I need products packed with active ingredients. I need them I tell ya! I still believe that this is the right day to day course of action for results but I have dropped my snobbery a little since discovering the brand Kiehl’s.
I loved everything that I read about this brand, and their whole ethos and approach spoke to my soul. When I discovered that my local Debenhams had a small Kiehl’s concession, I decided to go and have a chat with them and see what they are all about. Firstly, I absolutely blooming loved that I was not pounced on when I walked in. I. Hate. That. There is nothing more off putting than being launched at when you walk up to a counter, and I cannot tell you the amount of times that I have walked away from somewhere because of the pushy staff, no matter how much I may want their product.
I was left to browse, and then when I was ready, looked up and caught the assistant’s eye, (who was named Paul and the nicest man ever), and he came over and helped me. I need to also add here that I was blown away by how passionate, knowledgable and helpful Paul was. His product knowledge was fantastic and he steered and guided me without one ounce of “selling” at all. Such a pleasant shopping experience and introduction to the brand. So refreshing.
Anyway, I digress. I was after trying a masque mainly, that I aimed to use once a week or so to give my skin a boost. Paul, my new bbf, recommended the Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energising Radiance Masque, (I know, long title right?). It claimed to brighten and energise the look of dull, fatigued skin. Yep Paul, hit me with it, give me that in bucket loads!
I have been using the masque once a week for about 4 weeks now, and Im seriously impressed. The application is easy, you put a thin but visible layer (think Princess Fiona from Shreck, thats your desired look here) over your skin, and leave on for about 10 minutes. (I could leave you a photo of me wearing the look, but if you follow my Instagram stories, you would have seen me in this masque many times). Then, using warm water you start removing, massaging in circular movements as you do. Now, I will add here that it is a bit messy to remove. It likes to stay put. I have found the best way, is to get the masque moving with the warm water, massage all over for a few minutes, then I use damp cotton wool to remove the rest. Ta-daaaa, off in no time.
My skin instantly feels softer, and looks brighter, but the main thing that I have noticed and love, is that for a few days after, my skin has really good skin days! I don’t have to wear any foundation or skin make up at all for a few days. That is the honest truth, no skin make up at all! I can literally moisturise, spf, and go. My skin seems to have a radiance and clarity that just looks heathy and glowing. I love it! Even my 15 year old son told me my skin has been looking “fresh”, which Im assured is good in teen-talk. If its a warm day, I dust a tiny bit of loose mineral powder over my forehead and chin to help with shine, but thats it.
I have, if the truth be told, been surprised by how impressed I am with this masque. I didn’t expect to be. I havent used an over the counter, cosmetic masque in forever, but the way my skin looks after using it speaks for itself. It has earnt its place as a staple in my skincare routine. Well done little red pot of wonder, well done.
Other products caught my eye and I did also buy the Kiehl’s honey whipped body butter, (you can read about that more here), which is amazing, and Paul gave me a bag of samples, including other skincare and body bits, to try. I have also been invited in for a facial, play with the products and chat about the Kiehl’s products and more knowledge about the company itself, so look forward to that.
If you haven’t tried this masque, and you feel like your skin needs a little pick me up, this brand snob right here has had to take a seat and admit that she can be impressed still, so I would recommend it fully.
